Fixed deposits

Fixed deposits, explained before you invest

Besides banks, many well-known companies and NBFCs accept fixed deposits. They pay a fixed rate of interest for a fixed term. Because they are not bank deposits, the issuer and its credit rating matter, and we walk you through both.

Questions

Common questions

Something else on your mind? Ask us on WhatsApp.

How is a company FD different from a bank FD?

Both pay fixed interest for a fixed term. A company FD depends on that company’s ability to repay, so its credit rating is important, and it is not covered by bank deposit insurance.

Can I get monthly interest?

Yes. Most deposits offer a non-cumulative option that pays interest monthly, quarterly or yearly, or a cumulative option that pays everything at maturity.

What does the credit rating mean?

It is an independent opinion on how safely the issuer can repay. AAA is the highest. A higher rating usually comes with a lower interest rate.
